Carved in wood, woven in raffia
Traditional Bamileke buildings rise on frames of bamboo and raffia, crowned with tall conical thatched roofs. Door-frames and pillars are carved with geometric motifs, ancestral figures, and symbols of power — each a record of the kingdom’s history.
A ceremonial heart
The palace courtyard is the stage for the community’s great gatherings — enthronements, festivals, and dances. It is both a monument and a living space, where tradition is renewed with every generation.
