The Bana Kingdom
Founded in 1379 by Fo Tchokogwe, the Bana Kingdom is one of the historic first-degree chiefdoms of the Bamileke people, in the Haut-Nkam division of Cameroon’s West Region.
A living institution
At its head is the Fo (king) — today His Majesty Fo Sikam Happi V, enthroned in 2003. As a first-degree ruler, the highest rank of traditional authority in Cameroon, he is the guardian of the kingdom’s sacred and cultural heritage, receives audiences, and ennobles the notables who help govern the community.
Six centuries of continuity
Across more than six hundred years, the throne of Bana has passed through generations of Fo, preserving the customs, language, and identity of the Bana people through colonial times and into the modern era.
